Pride and Less Prejudice (PLP), a national nonprofit, invites you to our fourth annual Banned Together virtual auction, in conjunction with Banned Books Week. From September 26 at 10AM ET until September 29 at 10PM ET, you can bid on and purchase items, make a donation, and learn more about our mission. Please note that participation is limited to residents of the U.S.

PLP provides LGBTQ+ inclusive literature to pre-k through third grade teachers in all 50 states FOR FREE, and we need your support to do so. Because identity is intersectional and multifaceted, we feature books that center LGBTQ+ characters from racially, linguistically, and ethnically diverse backgrounds. These books spark observations and conversations among children in and beyond their classrooms. We also provide guides, resources, and conversation-starters for teachers. Every auction purchase and donation puts more books into the hands of more teachers.

At a time when book bans continue to gain traction in multiple states, the LGBTQ+ community faces growing threats, and DEI programs are under attack, PLP supports LGBTQ+ inclusivity through children's literature. Representation matters and is critically important for building a child’s sense of self. Research shows that LGBTQ+ young people are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers (Johns et al., 2019; Johns et al., 2020). All children deserve to see themselves and their families and to be seen by others. Stories reflect who we are and offer a window to the experiences of those around us. If young children can be taught to hate and fear, they can also learn to welcome and include.
